Almost done, just a few more details and it’ll be finished.  I need to ask my friend at work on those details before I draw it. At the top of the picture you can see two of the reference photos I used to draw this portrait.  I used a 6B and 8B pencil because the soft graphite makes for darker shading.  Hope the father likes it.

Also, check out my latest eBay listing. It ends tonight so get your winning bid in before 6PM Pacific.  Here’s the link:

Daughter’s Portrait

This picture probably doesn’t show up very well, but this is the initial outline of the portrait.  I call this, “the cartoon”.  I’ll finish all the refinements this weekend have it ready to present to her father next week.  I think I’ll take this drawing,  along with a small easel, to “Taste and See”.  It’s a coffee shop in Macon, GA. Just get a good cup of coffee and draw off the portrait right there.  Sounds like a plan to me.

Thanks for stopping by and check back soon to see how it turns out.

Daughter’s portrait

Angela Garden Wall

This is the daughter of a co-worker of mine. He’s asked me to do a portrait of his daughter in pencil.  I’ll use a 4B, 6B, and 8B soft lead pencil when drawing portraits in graphite. I will also use a blending tool to assist in adding values and refining it by smoothing out the graphite.  This will all be done on smooth bristol paper

Check back soon to see how I get started.

Wren II

Finished in time to list on eBay!  I tried to make this one identical to the one that was damaged last week. The principle colors for the wren are Burnt Umber and white.  Other colors used on the bird are cobalt blue and a mix of ultra marine blue, alizarin crimson, cad red light, and cad orange for the feet.  The background is a mix of sap green, alizarin crimson, ultra marine blue cad yellow medium, and burnt sienna.  The painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas, so there is no need to frame it.

Here’s the link to the eBay listing and good luck with the winning bid.  Bidding starts at just one penny.

So far so good.  Completed blocking in the bird and now starting to detail.  The brushes I use at this point are a small bright, a liner, and my favorite brush for painting birds, a dagger stripper.  The dagger brush I use is a Loew-Cornnell 1/8.  They are small, but perfect for this size canvas (6 X 8). I also have larger daggers for larger canvases.  This painting should be ready by Sunday to be listed on eBay for a lucky someone to win.

Went to Savannah, GA for Memorial Day weekend and here are a few pictures that I took.  (Some pictures are from past trips)  I’ve been going there each Memorial Day weekend with my sister for years.  My sister and I love this town, but no matter how many times we go there, we always discover a new place we’ve never visited before.  If you are in Savannah any time soon, go by and visit Crystal’s Beer Parlor located on the corner of Jefferson St and Jones St. Great food!

My last Wren painting was damaged and I had to take it off eBay.  I’m starting a new painting just like the last; except it’s on a gallery wrapped canvas. As you can see in the above photo, I’ve already finished the background and completed the underpaint of the wren itself.  I’ll post pictures as I go to show the progress on this painting.

Thanks for coming by,

Wren

(click on picture to see a close up)

Here’s this weeks eBay painting.  Listing starts at 6PM Pacific.  This wren is painted with a muted background.  There’s no telling where these small birds will turn up.  My brother found a wren’s nest on the radiator of his pick-up truck.  The bird built it in just a few hours.  Still, these type of birds are a joy to paint.  This is a 6 X 8 oil on canvas.  Bidding starts at just one penny. Good luck having the winning bid.

Here’s the link to my current eBay listing, “Bluebird and Blossoms”, http://www.ebay.com/itm/282039441120?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

It ends tonight 10PM Pacific.

Good luck with the winning bid.

Thanks for stopping by.

I had to take this painting off eBay.  It got damaged beyond my ability to repair it so I’m painting another just like it, except this time it’ll be on a gallery wrapped canvas.

It’s done.  This painting will be listed on eBay tonight 10 PM Pacific.

I wasn’t able to finish the wren in time, but I’ll work on it during the week and have it ready next weekend.  My current eBay listings end tonight. These paintings are wearable art.  Here’s the links and good luck bidding:

Bluebird and Blossoms

Bluebird and Blossoms

Almost done.  All I need to do now is just finish the details.  The bird itself is basically done, all I need to do now is finish the feet.  Afterwards, I’ll finish the final tone for the leaves and blossoms and it’s done.  It will be ready to be listed on eBay tomorrow night.  The blossoms are made with mixing permanent rose with titanium white.  The leaves are made with mixing phthalo  blue with lemon yellow.  Check back tomorrow and let’s see what it looks like when it’s finished.

Thanks,

Les
